PREVIEW – Nathan MacKinnon will face the team that drafted him in the final part of his team’s quest to win the QMJHL playoff title.
In 2011, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar had the first overall pick in the Q draft and drafted MacKinnon at #1. He wasn’t interested in playing in the Quebec city so five weeks later the Drakkar traded him to Halifax. He will face Baie-Comeau for only the 6th time since being drafted but this time around the games will be more important and tougher. The top two teams in the Quebec league will face off for the all important President’s Cup and for a berth in the Memorial Cup tournament.
Halifax finished first 23 points ahead of the Drakkar with a 58-6-3-1 record. Baie-Comeau finished second in the league with a 44-19-2-3 record.
Baie-Comeau will be underdogs as they come in being outscored 9-3 in 2 season matchups against Halifax.
